BLACQUE BUTTERFLY
Before a butterfly becomes the beautiful creature it is known to be, it must first go through a detailed and often painful process. A butterfly is a living testament to the truths that sometimes, struggle produces strength and pain gives birth to purpose. Given such, its more than fitting that Darlene Solomon-Rogers, a poet and activist raised in NE Portland is known as Blacque Butterfly. Blacque Butterfly recently self-published a limited edition of her debut chapbook, titled BLACK GIRL, CAN I COMB YOUR HAIR? She is currently soliciting a publisher to re-release the work, in an expanded version, to the mainstream. In the meantime, shes making a name for her self via independent promotion which will include the release of her debut album, a socially conscious mix of melodies and slammin beats featuring collaborations with some of the industrys hottest indie artist. SAMINA
I started belly dancing a little over 4 years ago. At first I was safely tucked away in the very back of the class, trying to be as invisible as possible. I was shy, self conscious, and unsure of the other dancers? reaction to my size. I never would have guessed that in such a short time I would have gained so much. I have some wonderful friends as well as an appreciation for my own body. Belly Dancing has given the 'magpie' part of my personality a reason to rejoice. I now have good reason for buying up all of the gaudy jewelry, glittery make up and garish charity shop clothes I can carry. When I started dancing I swore I would never dance in public, thankfully I was wrong.
SWEETPEA AND SOURPUSS
Sweatpea dreamed of the stage as a child. A pretty little princess was all she wanted to be. The prima ballerina! It was in the ballet as a child that she met Sourpuss, a grumpy curmudgeonly little girl. Sourpuss had a poor attitude and was never nice to the other children. But Sourpuss loved to dance and despite their clearly opposite dispositions, Sweatpea and Sourpuss became very close friends. They have been dancing together ever since.
SAHARA DUNES
She hails from the sultry island of St. Vincent. She's powerful and provocative, alluring and passionate. Captivating you with seduction and style, this femme fatale causes hearts to melt. Sahara is the spawn of a British royal and exclusive madame to the wealthy. In order to keep the British from learning of their forbidden love, the lovely madame fled to the West Indies. There, she met a local Kama Sutra master. There, they raised Sahara with the love only two women can. They taught her how to love herself and let that shine through to others. Sahara has since grown into a sex-pot of a woman. With the wisdom of her mothers, the knowledge of Kama Sutra, and her goddess born gift, Sahara has been mesmerizing the masses with burlesque since 2000. Her hazel-gray eyes are deliberate and has been causing women and men alike to drool. With class, grace, seduction, and charm, Sahara Dunes entertains the souls of many.....One submissive soul at a time. SAHARA'S SITE
